Recruiting – Alex Newhook Leads Boston College Hockey Class

Recruits

2019-This season

Alex Newhook (F)-5’11 190 from St. Johns, Newfoundland

Scored 38 goals and 64 assists for Victoria of the British Columbia Hockey League. Newhook is an electrifying talent. His speed reminds me of Brian Gionta and his playmaking is similar to Ben Eaves. Drafted #16 in the NHL first round by the Colorado Avalanche. This kid is going to have BC fanatics standing in anticipation of his next rush up the ice. Tremendous shot and accuracy, and is tenacious on the back check. A fanatical student, Newhook is a perfect fit for Boston College hockey.

Played for the USA National Developmental Under 18 team where he scored 33 goals and 48 assists in 64 games. Chosen with #12 pick in the NHL draft by the Minnesota Wild. He only recently committed to playing only hockey full time. Great shot, and keen patience to wait a split second to gain a better angle. Boldy reminds me of Joe Whitney with more size.

Drew Helleson (D) Six-foot-three 194 pounds from Farmington, Minnesota.

5 goals, 18 assists for USA National Developmental Under 18 team. Drafted in the 2nd round by the Colorado Avalanche. He may have been the best two-way Defenseman on the USNDT. Very good defender, tremendous anticipation, and smartly initiates break-outs up the ice. Reminds me of former BC defender Peter Harrold.

Spencer Knight (G) Six-foot-four 193 pounds from Darien Connecticut.

Recorded a .913 save percentage and 2.36 goals against average for the USA National Developmental Under 18 Team. Drafted #13 in the first round by the Florida Panthers. Reminds me of former BC goaltender Thatcher Demko. One of the most athletic “big” goaltenders you will ever see. Considered the top draft eligible goaltender in North America, Knight is extremely agile and competitive.

Marshall Warren (D) Five-foot-eleven 180 pounds from Laurel Hollow, New York.

8 goals and 26 assists last season while playing for the USA National Developmental under 18 team. Warren is an offensive minded defenseman who loves to speed into the attack zone like a forward. His offensive instincts are better than many forwards. Warren’s stock rose quickly with his lofty performance last season. A crafty offensive D-man will make Eagle forwards better scorers.

Mike Hardman (F) 6-foot-three 195 pounds from Hanover, MA

Scored 39 goals and 33 assists for West Kelowna of the British Columbia Hockey League. A late bloomer who played at Xaverian and Winchendon before joining West Kelowna. Hardman was recruited by BU and BC, and chose the Eagles. Hardman plays physical without taking many penalties, and is a left hand shot who can play the off wing.

Mitch Andres (D) Six-foot-two 205 pounds from Brainerd, Minnesota.

Scored 4 goals and 17 assists playing for Vernon and Chilliwack in the British Columbia Hockey League. Andres displays good speed, and plays physical. He will be given an opportunity to compete for a regular spot on the Eagle Defense.
