Jerry York is laser-focused on capturing another NCAA title for Boston College Hockey. On November 18 he will pause briefly for a detour to Toronto where he will attend the Hockey Hall of Fame induction celebration. York has recorded an NCAA best 1067 wins.
In 47 seasons he has averaged 23 per year while coaching Clarkson, Bowling Green, and Boston College. To achieve 23 wins in one season is an accomplishment. Ringing up 20 plus-year after year is merely remarkable.
BU coach Jack Parker said- “I don’t think York gets enough credit for what he has accomplished at BC.”
How does this coach achieve greatness year after year? Passion, enthusiasm, and infectious energy to improve. York is adamant that each player “checks his ego at the door.” The success of the team takes precedence over individual accomplishments.
As Summer gives way to Fall, Conte Forum ice and hockey returns soon. A new season with seven talented freshmen joining a BC squad looking to return to the NCAA tournament. Can York work his magic again this coming season?
York is one of only two active NCAA coaches who have won national championships at multiple schools. The other is Alabama football coach Nick Saban.
