#7 ranked BC received outstanding goaltending from Spencer Knight and shutout the #10 Fighting Irish 4-0. Eagles have now won 8 in a row to run their record to 10-4.
Julius Mattila continues to play outstanding hockey as he netted his 5th goal on a quick snap shot on a powerplay in the second period. Linemate David Cotton and Logan Hutsko recorded their 7th goals on the season and continue to dazzle for the Eagles. Highlights can be seen here.
Spencer Knight now has 4 shutouts in his first season and made a key save on a breakaway attempt from Notre Dame in the second period. Notre Dame was unlucky on a couple of rebound attempts-one of which slid under Knight but missed wide.
This Eagle squad boasts production from across 4 full lines, as 4th line sophomore forward Patrick Giles notched his second goal on beautiful shorthanded wrister above the shoulder of Irish goalie Cale Morris.
7,200 fans packed Conte Forum, the largest crowd this season. Prior to the game BC Athletic Director-Martin Jarmond paid tribute to Jerry York on his induction into the Hall of Fame.
Junior Defenseman Mike Karow played his best game to date while delivering a couple of hard body checks and Drew Helleson (assist on Hutsko goal) was equally impressive with his ability to anticipate plays and beating opponents to the puck. Marshall Warren continues to impress with his explosive skating and offensive instincts. The game was much closer than the score would indicate, as Notre Dame just missed on a couple of scoring opportunities that slid wide, and Spencer Knight would not be beat.
BC now must travel to South Bend for a rematch against Notre Dame on Sunday afternoon, where they will try to make it 9 straight wins to close out an impressive first half of the 2019-20 season.
