Conte Forum was packed last night and the Eagles hockey team delivered with a stirring 4-3 win over BU. Logan Hutsko scored another breakaway goal on a beautiful pass from Julius Mattila (2 assists and 1 goal)
and a second goal from the slot on another perfect feed from Mattila.
David Cotton registered two more assists as the Eagles top line delivered in clutch fashion. Cotton’s hard work along the boards against a very physical BU team set up two of the Eagle goals. His tremendous all-around play can not be overstated. Cotton plays a full game from offense to defense, powerplay and penalty kill.
Each time that BC scored, BU responded with a goal and it was 3-3 late in the third period. Julius Mattila skated down the left-wing and tried a saucer pass across to Hutsko that deflected off the BU defenseman and into the goal for the game-winner.
BC had to kill off a late penalty on Ben Finkelstein that allowed BU to pull their goaltender to gain a 6 on 4 advantage. Spencer Knight held the fort and BC blocked a couple of shots to seal their 15th victory on the season. Highlights can be seen here.
New BC head football coach Jeff Hafley enjoyed the lively atmosphere at Conte Forum and asked the BC fans to jump in and support the football program in a pre-game speech. Hafley appears to relish his new job at BC and the football program desperately needs a leader with a vision for a higher level of success. Hafley told the fired-up crowd that the ACC may soon find that BC football will deliver a worthy rival. If he is half as successful as Jerry York-BC fans will be delighted.
Jeff Hafley asks BC fans to “Get in”. Video of his speech can be seen here. Very much worth a minute to view. Jerry York and Hafley have formed an instant bond and York mentioned that Hafley was recommended highly by former BC coach Ryan Day. Go Eagles!
