#4 Eagles outclass #10 UMass 6-3 in the rematch

BC played spotty hockey tonight in Amherst but fired in 3 power-play goals to thrash UMass 6-3. BC moves to within 2 points of the top spot in Hockey East with 3 games in hand vs. #1 Providence.

Spencer Knight kept the Eagles within striking distance in a lopsided first period for the Minuteman. Trailing 1-0, BC responded with 4 straight goals including David Cotton (10th goal), Mike Hardman (on a beautiful assist from Alex Newhook), Marshall Warren (great pass from Matt Boldy), and a blast from Ben Finkelstein (PP) to make it 4-1 BC.

UMass played very tight-checking hockey to keep the pressure on BC most of the game. Their biggest issue was taking penalties. BC hit on 3 man-advantage goals to make UMass pay a heavy price for each infraction. #4 ranked BC moves to 7-3 in conference play and 13-5 on the season.

BC played without Patrick Giles who sustained a shoulder dislocation Friday night and will miss at least two weeks. Backup goaltender Ryan Edquist reinjured his ankle in practice last week and is out for the season. Next up is a road game vs. UMass Lowell on Friday and the first game against archrival BU at Conte Forum on Saturday.
